I give this Academy Awards Red Carpet mixed reviews; there really weren't any disasters, but there weren't many looks that WOWED me. Most of the attendees looked really nice.
However, these few ladies stood out above the pack, choosing dresses that were flattering, beautiful, and still fashion forward.
Let's count down to my favorite look!
12. Glenn Close
Glenn Close has still got it. Not only is this Zac Posen so flattering, the color is really unexpected but beautiful on her. I love that she paired the dress with a blazer- a cool way to cover up.
11. Tina Fey
Though her Carolina Herrera dress is minimal, the peplum injects this dress with something cute and trendy.
10. Stacey Keibler
This dripping gold Marchesa could only be pulled off by Stacey's famous figure. Stacey looks like the female Oscar statue.
9. Kristen Wiig
Kristen's J. Mendel dress is in a color that she loves: nude. However, the fuller tulle skirt gives Kristen a real princess moment.
8. Cameron Diaz
A selection of Rachel Zoe, no doubt, this Gucci ensemble makes Cameron look white hot. Literally. The bottom of this dress looks like its aflame!
7. Shailene Woodley
I love Shailene's sophisticated taste in red-carpet dresses. This white long-sleeve Valentino could come across as matronly, but it looks fresh and different on young Shailene.
6. Michelle Williams
Michelle's red-carpet looks are always highly anticipated, and she didn't fail to disappoint. Michelle's orangey-red Louis Vuitton looked beautiful on her, and the peplum, colorblocking, and layers of ruffling make the look really stand out.
5. Natalie Portman
Always looking like the classic beauty, Natalie chose a vintage Dior gown...with polka dots! While the color and silhouette are simple, the polka dots (and diamond necklace) portray Natalie's fashion-darling status.
4. Rooney Mara
Though everyone in fashion was rooting for the marriage of Rooney and Givenchy, Rooney's appearance on the carpet in Givenchy couture still caused quite a stir. It is nice to see Rooney in something white, and this dress manages to be both edgy and feminine, qualities that Rooney embraces in her red-carpet choices.
3. Emma Stone
This color can be hard to pull off, especially for a redhead, but Emma pulls off this beautiful Giambattista Valli flawlessly. The dress is simple, but the color speaks for itself.
2. Gwenyth Paltrow
Gwenyth. In Tom Ford. With a cape. I love how Gwenyth did something so completely different, and yet the dress and cape are simple and streamlined enough to look elegant and not like a costume.
1. Jessica Chastain
I am so glad someone wore Alexander McQueen. You really can't go wrong with McQueen on the red carpet. The ornate detailing of this gown make it darkly romantic; paired with Jessica's innocent beauty, this look is how to be red-carpet appropriate AND fashion forward.
